COVID Guidelines
2022-23

This is the guidance provided by our Health and Safety officer.

Your privacy is important to us however due to the ongoing pandemic we will need to ask if your child is ill and experiencing symptoms of COVID. We are following the guidelines from the Pierce County Health Department, there are other districts with differing protocols but at this time we have to follow TPCHD guidelines, thank you for your understanding.

Illness
Pierce County has differentiated symptoms as Class A
or Class B.
  • If a child is experiencing any Class A symptoms, or more than one Class B symptom a COVID test is required before they return to class.
  • If only ONE Class B symptom is experienced AND it resolves in less than 24 hours testing is not required.
  • Testing needs to be PCR (nasal swab)
Class A Symptoms
  • Fever/chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell
Class B Symptoms
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea- 2 or more loose stools in 24 hours
There has been an update in the COVID guidelines, including travel information as of 1/11/22.

7-Day with Negative Test Quarantine (students and staff);
Students and staff must quarantine at home. If a student has had a COVID exposure quarantine can end after 7 full days beginning after the last close contact if no symptoms have developed AND after receiving a negative test result. The test should occur no sooner than on or after day 5 post exposure. Continue monitoring for symptoms until day 14. Negative test results may come from a healthcare provider, local health jurisdiction, pharmacy or other community-based testing site.

Proof of a negative COVID-19 test includes the original, a copy or a photo of the document that shows:
  • The first and last name of the individual tested.
  • The type of test performed (must be molecular or antigen).
  • The date the specimen was collected (must be on or after day 5 post-exposure).
  • A negative result.

If a student/family who is a close contact chooses not to test or does not get tested:
10-day Quarantine:
Quarantine should last for 10 days after the last close contact without additional testing required. However, if any COVID-19 symptoms develop during the 10 days, remain in quarantine and get tested. Continue monitoring for symptoms until day 14.

Guidelines for after travel:
Get tested 3-5 days after your trip and stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel, even if your test is negative. If you don’t get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.  (https://www.doh.wa.gov/Emergencies/COVID19/Travel)
